I had a K&N FIPK setup on my supercharged Tacoma...looked pretty neat but all it did was make noise that I grew tired of. Took it off and put the factory airbox back on...quieter in the cab and no loss of performance that I can tell.

I don't care about some squiggly line on a dyno chart ticking upwards of a gnat's ass...but some folks do. Who's going to notice 1-2hp anyway? Not me.
I would still run a K&N drop in filter though since they are re-useable and better than the cheap OEM filters that is the one good reason to get a K&N filter is for it's 10 year/1,000,000 warranty agreed not worth it for a 2-3HP you don't even notice.

There's no "pre-chilling", however it is a fact that ambient outside air is colder and denser then engine compartment air.
