My guess is men, based on observation - whenever I visit a carwash (I'm female) it's pretty rare to see another woman washing or vacuuming their cars. That's coin-op DIY car washes, not the drive-through or ones where others wash your vehicle for you. Perhaps women visit those types in greater numbers.

IF it's mostly men at car washes generally, does that mean women have dirtier cars, the men in their lives wash their cars for them, or what?

As others have said, when I've had a really nice or newer car (not currently) I opt for hand-washing it myself when weather permits. I've never used the foaming brush option at a coin-op car wash on a nicer vehicle because I worry about grit or debris in the bristles scratching the finish.

I represented two car wash tunnels (with hand finishing) here over the past 20 years. Its men about 3 to one. They bring their wives cars too.

I go to the DIY a lot with my muddy off road rigs and there it looks about even.

I prefer to wash my and wax my own car....Hubby occasionally will take the truck through a wand wash type thing...but no automatic car washes for us. Too much potential for damage. Even "touchless" are questionable!

I'm male - and I take the vehicles to the car wash - once a week each.

Men wash their cars by hand. Women either wash their cars by robot or pay a man to wash it by hand.

I can answer this one definitely as I own several car washes.

At my tunnel (automated) car washes, the majority of customers are women.

At my self-serve washes (coin-op), the majority is men.

This man takes his car to a hand wash place at 21st and Wabash where other men wash it. Most of the customers there are men.

I would think women make up the majority. No self respecting guy would let someone else wash his car unless it was the dead of winter and the garden hose was frozen.

I use the "do it yourself" ones, prewash, high pressure soap and high pressure rinse for $4, result is far superior to any automated car wash I've seen.

I have no idea on the percentage who use carwashes though, might be that it's 50/50, but men frequent them more often?
