How much would you buy a 2002 Dodge Ram for that has been reconditioned with a new engine?

Honestly I wouldn't

The answer depends on the options on the truck. 2WD, 4X4, Standard cab, Ext cab ?????

A 4x4 ext cab V8 in really good condition could bring $3500 if it's not rusted away and the 4WD actually works.

Like johna01374 said, we need more details. We would also need to know what the source of the replacement engine was and whether or not it has any warranties.

In general, I would lean towards no as chances are there are other major components like the trans and rear that may be on their way out soon as well.

You obviouslly don't know the value of a truck.

I challenge you to find a 2002 Ram for ~$3,000 that is in good condition. I don't think you'll find one for under $5k that doesn't have less than 200k miles.

2002 4x4 121k miles QuadCab $10800

2002 4x4 reg cab 96k miles $9000

2002 4x4 QuadCab 155k miles $7500

2002 4x4 QuadCab 91k miles $11500

2002 4x4 QuadCab 180k miles $6500

That gives you a general idea.

Problem is we don't know where this poster is at.

Here in Chicago most of those trucks are rusted out piles of scrap by now and you'd be lucky to get $3500 for it.

I had a 2004 come in for service a few months ago and the owner was selling it. I quoted $2500 in repairs and he passed on having them done as his asking price was $4000. It never sold and still sitting there. 2004 ext cab 4x4 with 98K on the clock and leaks from every major part of the truck.

The prices Pokermunkee posted are correct, even for Chicago, assuming the truck was in good condition. In general a 2002 Ram 1500 could be worth anywhere from $4k (low end model trade) - $11k (high trim/option model dealer retail). It all comes down to exactly which model it is, the overall condition of the truck, the source of the replacement engine, total miles on the body and other work that was done.

IMO, the fact it has a replacement engine really doesn't have much weight on the vehicles worth versus what it would bring with an original running motor. At most a good Jasper replacement may add $500 or so to the value. However, even then I would still be concerend about everything else in the powertrain.
