What would it be?

Keep in mind that I'm talking about for the whole family/household.

And this assumes that you're living in a place that either has good transit or is walkable/bikeable. So basically 50-90% of trips can be done without having to use a car.

But you still have a car for your mobility needs that can't be covered without it.

I'd want a sports car.

Like a Corvette. (http://www.automotorsport.se/bigpix/2007/Corvette_ZR1_speed_big.jpg - broken link)

Unfortunately the family wont fit in a Vette so something more practical like a Toyota Corolla or Camry would be the sensible choice..

You've narrowed the parameters of the question down to a very tiny demographic, or required the respondents to imagine themselves in what, for must of us, is an extremely improbable situation.

Making that leap, I'd want a 1938 Citroen Eleven sedan, Traction Avant. (But all black)

I live in such a situation, in a high-rise condo in Chicago. We do a great deal of walking, cycling and CTA and taxi riding and have a car that usually comes out only once a week. It's a Ford Edge.

I'd as soon have something smaller like a Focus but it does the job intended around town and is very satisfactory for the road trips we take.

Jag XJ, the newest one, if I had to be able to fit a family and all that.

My heart wants the Aston Martin Rapide... so who knows, I might've gone with that, if you put a gun to my head, the Jag is the sensible choice.

...That said, it really isn't fair to demand that I can only pick one, lol

My adult "Household" is only one person...

My family has owned a Toyota Camry since 2001, and it is a very dependable car for the family.

If I had a family in this hypothetical situation, then that would be my choice.

Either that or a "small" SUV.

The situation in this thread is hypothetical. I guess that means people could make hypothetical threads where flying cars exist or cars run off of good ideas.
