Default Get $1000 to Retire Your Car - Consumer Assistance Program?

I'm in the state of CALIFORNIA. Anyone ever fill out the (4-page) Consumer Assistance Program Application & actually gotten $1000 for your old car or is this too good to be true? How much hassle did you have to go through?

My BF has a 1985 GMC Jimmy that he's probably going to get rid of because he can't get it to pass smog & he's fed up w/ not knowing what's wrong & he's not going to put another dime towards trying to fix it. He can't drive it around much longer because if a cop happens to pull him over, the car could be towed away.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Cali still has that? Even with the budget wreck?

What bit I googled up mentions this as long as funds are available...I doubt that is the case now.

Well, apparently so. A certified smog place just gave out the application the other day. I know the DMV gives them out too, so if the program was no longer going on, they shouldn't still be handing it out.

The program still exists. You must abide by the strict rules & be able to drive your car to the salvage yard to get your 1000.00 check. My neighbor did it after failing smog. Smog tests are tougher then ever now esp for old cars. The foul & horrid legislature want old cars off the road. I sure would love to just punch them in the mouth just like LOTS of other ca residents. Just go to the ca dmv site & search for the vehicle retirement program.

My BF's stopped pursuing this issue long ago, so I haven't looked into where to get this document.
