As some of you know by my other thread, I just bought a 11' Civic Si and noticed in service manual, it never mentions draining out the oil after the break-in period. In fact, it doesn't tell you any mileage intervals for any service, just once per year or whenever the oil life reaches zero. That said, is it OK to leave in the original oil for that long or should I give it a 1,000 miles, drain it out/refill?
Do not go by the oil life monitor or the 1 yr and change. Change the break in oil after 1,000 miles. Change the oil after that every 5k miles using the oil it says to under the hood.
Actually when we bought our Honda we were told to leave the original oil in it for 5k miles because of all the extra stuff the manu puts in. After that change it at 3K to 4K miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.
It's pretty important to change the oil after the first 1000 miles. then every 3000 miles after that. If yyou choose to go to synthetic oil you can change it every 5000 miles but I wouldn't make that switch until the motor has at least 5000 miles on it.
I went with my daughter last week when she purchased a new mustang. I went in the back and met the service manager.
Asked a bunch of questions about the oil change, break in period, etc. and was told that new cars today don't need to be broken in and to change the oil every 10,000 miles because fords now come with synthetic oil.
I would just call your service shop at the dealership where you purchased you car and ask them.

The manual says there is a break-in of 600 miles. I guess it wouldn't hurt it either way to drain that oil out at 1K.

your dealer is incorrect. Period.. You listen to them, your buying a new car sooner then you have to again
My brand new CRV says the oil from the factory is designed for break in and to leave it in until 10K, or the life indicator says 15% or one year. Apparently the oil has a high fraction of molybdenum, not sure why it helps, check the forum at the bobistheoilguy. I asked the service manager and she said to bring it in at 7.5K. The oil specified is going to be synthetic anyways because it calls for 0w-20.
