Good mechanics are born that way..school only helps them learn the best ways to diagnose problems, School doesn't teach how to use tools. That comes natural...If not you best pick another trade.

I agree that it takes time to get into the field comfortably but the ASE certs seem to be in high demand.

Default salary

What kind of salary can an entry level ASE certified auto tech expect to earn?

He can earn the percentage of his labor as fast AS HE CAN FIX THE CARS.. If he is slow his pay will be slow, If he works fast his pay will be much greater. Mechanics don't get paid when they stand around, For example. If a repair job pays 100 bucks and he gets 40% ,he makes 40 bucks. If he does 10 in a day he makes 400 . If he only does 2 he makes 80...See what I mean? ASE. don't mean squat if the guy cant fix the car all by himself, and do it right the first time. The second.third, fourth attempts pay 0. I'm just telling it like it is.

Anytime it comes to these particular threads, there's always going to be detractors and the "choose a higher-paying/wussier field" types posting their warnings and such.

Some want to break into this for money, some of us just want the added knowledge so we don't have to resort to getting a condescending lecture by a shop-jock.
