I've run into that same situation myself! You can't always trust the appearance of a station though.

I had to fill up at a station in North Carolina a few years ago due to being extremely low on gas. This place was OLD. It had the old style analog pumps with the rolling numbers and everything. I only bought 20 bucks,but it turned out to be the best gas I've ever bought. The owners were friendly,and it turned out to be a neat old place inside. I should've filled up!
