An AAA membership, depending on what level you get, is less than $100 a year. If you can't even afford that, you probably shouldn't even own a car. Knock off 1 fast food meal a month and you got it paid for.
If you don't presently own a cell phone, buy one. Virtually everyone can afford a cheap Trac phone. They're about 20 bucks or less on sale and a cheap minutes card would not cost much either.
This way, nobody would be forced to drive a malfunctioning car past it's limit and this kind of scenario can be avoided.
Careful what you say, if you make sense in here you will get belittled..!

AAA is not a good deal unless you actually plan to use its services and benefits. Your liability insurance company probably offers a road service package that is better than AAA, for half the price or less. With mine, you can call any road service you want, and the agent reimburses me cash, no questions asked. Buy a Rand McNally road atlas for 5 bucks at Walmart, and figure out for yourself which interstate goes from Cleveland to Orlando.
Tracfone is the best deal I know about. The phone is ten bucks or so, and I get two years, 240 minutes, prepaid for $130, which is about $5 a month. But, of course, I never take it with me in the car.

If insurance companies all offered such great road service, why would people pay 60 dollars a year for AAA?
Waiting for your insurance company to reimburse you (if they would at all) sounds like a big headache also. And don't be surprised if you use there road service a little too much that they would find a way to bump up your premium next year. Just my opinion.
