Nope your good to go.

I've never seen a canister go bad, chances are the gas cap was loose, you need a new gas cap or when you fulled up last you spilled a little fuel.

On some of the dodges if you just spill or a few drops of gas the light will come on, no bigey.

It's usually not the canister, it's the solenoid valve that fails, though the cannisters can become contaminated and need replacing.

You need to read more carefully.
I didn't say the light tells you what needs to be fix, I said the CODE READER will tell you what needs to be fixed.
Bob.

The code reader does not really tell you WHAT needs to be fixed as much as it tells you which part of the system needs to be fixed. One part of the system may contain a half a dozen individual parts and if any single one alone malfunctions the same code will come on. Unless a person can read and understand the OBD11 schematic just having the code is often of little value to the average person...Now with the internet you can research the code and may be able to fix it yourself and save big money.

I would still get the code read, it's still there, I mean it takes 5 minutes at any Autozone and it's free.

From what you have posted, yeah, it's probably that you left the gas cap a bit loose, but if you can find out so easily why not find out?

I read it just fine and my first post accurately reflects that!

Whenever I get a CEL pop up, I give it about a week. 90% of the time it goes off within that week, meaning it probably detected a single misfire or the gas cap wasn't tight enough.

2002 dodge neon with eng lite issue. Code reads 442. Gonna get that checked soon. Think a emission issue too? Got a new gas cap still comes on.

Code 442 is most likely caused by a loose gas cap.
