If you create a bottleneck in the left lane, you're no longer just an annoyance, you are endangering people's safety by seriously messing up traffic-flow predictability. That's why the "left lane for passing only" laws exist and why you are supposed to move to the right when you're not passing, even if you're driving the speed limit. So get of your self-righteous high horse and stay in the right lane.

I hear ya. I've been ranting about this for years. The previous poster is obviously proof that there are those out there.
There are two types of drivers out there and I have a theory that it is innate. Type A has a logical and unselfish happy life and they have the ability to see in the rear view mirror and they live by the Golden Rule and go to Heaven (you and me). Type B ( )has either the inability to look in the rear view mirror or they vindictively feel the need to control traffic and like to "convoy" with the adjacent car and play games with people and these people are small, resentful, their mom dresses them funny and they have dog breath.
There are two good reasons to be a type A driver besides the reasons listed above; sometimes I'm in the fast lane passing various cars on the right but there's a bottle-neck up ahead in the fast lane because there's a type B driver in the mix. But low-and-behold, there's this maniac coming along and coming up on me in the fast lane. Now what I do is get over and let this person pass me. This does two really neat things;
A) It lets a more irate person than myself put a stop to the bottle-neck by doing some extreme tailgating and road-rage driving FOR me while I relax and wait for the bottle-neck to end and,
B) Gives me a scout to fish out the speed traps up ahead!
That's what I think.

Ah, gotta love people who act as Bear Bait.
I swear, some time during my lifetime I'm gonna witness a left-lane hog get NASCAR'd into the median by an irate driver....

I posted this after my hellish trip from FL back to IL but for some reason my post got deleted - maybe for being too irate. The situation on the interstates is unbelievable.
I think people get their jollies from going the speed limit in the left lane right next to another car. They will NOT get over or slow down or speed up so you can pass on the left. There was one psycho woman in TN (if you are out there pay attention!) made some kind of sign and was holding it up in the back window of their car at people who were trying to pass them. (attention lady, we could not read that sign, although I am sure it said something rude).
They were going 70 mph in a 70 mph zone. We wanted to pass.... horrors!!
Then there are the people who pass on the right... not supposed to do that either. We saw every case of terrible driving on the trip back that's for sure.
Get the heck over folks... let us by... it will all be over soon. We are not power tripping.. we just have places to get to.
The interstates are filled with left lane bandits during the summer! My total pet peeve. OP- I feel your pain!

Whats even worse is when trucker buttholes will go to pass another semi on a 2 laner and take 10 frickin miles to pass. Either the passing trucker is a complete jerk and wont speed up to pass completely or the moron in the right lane isnt courteous enough to slow down to let the other trucker in front of him. Ive still yet to determine which is at fault, but nevertheless they still get an earful from me when they pull stunts like that.

It may be that neither of them are at fault. This is one case where you may have to give the truckers a little bit of slack....
1) On busier interstates, such as those criss-crossing our fine state, truckers have limited opportunities to pass. When they get one, they need to take it, even if that means a few cars have to wait patiently for them to complete the pass.
2) Once in the passing lane, the trucker may not be able to go any faster than he's going. Many semi cabs have an electronically governed top speed both to save fuel and as liability containment for the fleet owner.
3) If you are being passed, you actually have an obligation to maintain your present speed as best as possible for the sake of traffic-flow predictability and management. For trucks in particular, it is best to maintain as consistent a speed as possible to maximize fuel efficiency. Getting back up to speed after slowing down uses a lot of fuel.

That is correct as most company owned tractors can not go over most likely 65 MPH. School buses are the same way. I don't blame them as much as the next guy wanting to get around a truck/car going slower than they are. They have to pass someway. I hate when people speed up when you try to pass them. Some do it totally unwittingly as they don't realize their speed is directly dictated to them by the car they are riding beside. URGH! Pay attention to your speed or put it on cruise. I remember one time we were in a fleet truck on the highway and this lady was just totally clueless. I swear three times we had to just drop back in behind her as when we tried to pass her she would speed up. We could not go any faster than 65 and it was a PAIN in the ARSE! So give some of the truckers some slack as they can't help it. It takes a long time to get something that big and heavy up and going and even longer to stop it. Oh, and the other trucker getting passed might not want to slow down so much that the cars behind him that he already passed himself end up going around too.
I mentioned school buses and they are even worse. Most of the time the top speed you will find many of them doing is 50 on the highway. On field trips when there are 2-3 or more buses and a couple cars that are going to "follow" I NEVER follow. It creates a huge LONG line of slow moving cars. I know where I'm going and usually just go on ahead and get there ready to greet them as they get off the bus.

I experience this about everyday as I drive in to work. I go from about 4600 ft to about 6000 ft on the way into work and when a slow truck is passing a slower truck, I have to take the cruise off until the lane clears. It's nothing to really trip on too hard over. I even give the trucker a break if I see them trying to get momentum to make the hill. I try to stay out of their way and pass them about half way up the hill.
PS. This is off topic, but why do people NOT get over into the fast lane to let us in while we're merging onto the highway? I'll speed up or slow down to get in, but I always get over to let someone merge if I can. I'll even back off a car in the fast lane to let them back off and let the slow lane driver get over to accomodate the car that's merging. Does this make any sense?

Yes it does and I do the same thing. If I see cars coming up the entrance ramp to merge on and they need room I will get on over. That is if I'm in the right lane to start with - see the fastest car thread and you might notice I tend to be on that end of the spectrum more often .
