If it's a car in the way, a Richard Petty tap gets them over to the right.

Oregon drivers are the worst. And in an impromptu survey, 85% of Americans said that we should have an Autobahn-style road in this country. Oh my God, can you imagine? I bet you everybody who said yes thinks the Autobahn is just a big race to see who can go the fastest.
Another major problem is the wording of the signs. KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS is far more explanatory than SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. Nobody thinks they are slower traffic. They think they are going as fast as anybody should and hence, you get this problem.
States need to start enforcing these laws, DMVs need to teach people proper lane control and I guarantee you that traffic congestion would be lessened as would road rage incidents. Before you drive, put away your pride. That's how I feel.

You can actually get a ticket for driving the speed limit in the left lane. Back when they first changed the national speed limit to 55, a group went out on the freeway and all of them drove side by side at 55 mph. (I think it was in New York). There were all ticketed for obstructing the free flow of traffic.
Thus, conceptually, even in states that do nto have the law that the left lane is only for passing, someone driving 70 in the fast lane with traffic lined up behind them could get a ticket for obstructing traffic. Too bad they do nto issue that ticket more often. Then they could also ticket all of the people waiting to go fast for speeding. A great revenue builder.

I swear, I'm gonna start carrying a five million candlepower spotlight in my car and start shining it in the mirrors of left-lane barnacles who don't get the hint when there's a line of traffic behind them -- or worse yet, when traffic starts blowing by them in the right lane...

IF I'm ever in Chicago again, I'll be sure to do the speed limit in the left lane.
Get your spotlight ready. :-)

If there is anything that pisses me off on the road is slow Leftlane Hoggers. I think they are usually people with psychological issues, who want to feel that they are in power, or just want to pissoff other drivers.

If everyone actually drove the speed limit, traffic would literally go NOWHERE! I lived in a city once where a local radio station did an experiment with this. We had a fairly large (6 lane, 3 each direction) interstate with a speed limit of 55mph. The radio station sent out 3 of their interns to test the 55mph theory. All 3 of them got together and drove next to each other at exactly 55mph around the whole interstate, during morning rush hour traffic (which is 50 miles around, give or take a few). Guess what...yep you're right...traffic was backed up, even stopped in some places, for MILES!!!!! I'm pretty sure that the station was also fined for causing a traffic hazzard. Go figure that!
