See those signs on the side of the road saying "Slower Traffic Keep Right"? Those signs are there for a reason. And they're not merely suggestions; they are the law.

I swear, I'm gonna start carrying a five million candlepower spotlight in my car and start shining it in the mirrors of left-lane barnacles who don't get the hint when there's a line of traffic behind them -- or worse yet, when traffic starts blowing by them in the right lane...

Maybe people should just drive the speed limit instead of whining about someone in the left lane driving "slow"!

Funny you mention that, I had to yell at some bozo for doing that this morning. I also once got a ticket in WI for passing a flippin cheesehead who was doing 10 under in the passing lane! Cop waited for me to pass and then nailed me for speeding while passing. I swear I grew horns and spewed flames at that cop. AARRRGHGHHH!!! All because of buttholes who clog the passing lanes. I cant wait until the day I actually see a cop writing a ticket for someone who was driving too slow in the passing lane.

Amen to that. Yeah slow drivers in the left lane - that's why I don't carry firearms in the car, because I would just be too tempted to use it on them.

To "Sweetclimber", the signs here say LEFT LANE PASSING ONLY, not, LEFT LANE FOR IDIOTS TRYING TO SLOW DOWN DRIVERS THAT JUST MAY BE GOING 5 MPH OVER SPEED LIMIT.

Or maybe left-lane hogs should stop trying to play "Traffic Cop" and leave that to the state troopers to exercise at their discretion. Driving the speed limit around here will get you run off the road and create a bottleneck. If you create a bottleneck in the right lane, you're merely an annoyance. If you create a bottleneck in the left lane, you're no longer just an annoyance, you are endangering people's safety by seriously messing up traffic-flow predictability. That's why the "left lane for passing only" laws exist and why you are supposed to move to the right when you're not passing, even if you're driving the speed limit. So get of your self-righteous high horse and stay in the right lane.

I would but I got chased over to the left lane by people driving 30 mph over the speed limit in the right lane!

Not only what Drover just posted but it is illegal even in Texas to drive in the far left lane even if you are going over the speed limit if your not PASSING SOMEONE! You will get a ticket for it. If your not passing a vehicle then you need not nor do you have any business being in the far left lane. It is there for a reason. If it did not make sense nor was it deemed a POSITIVE for the safety of ALL citizens don't you think that the states would have pulled the plug on it by now? LOL!!! Afterall there are now laws in most cities and states that prohibit large trucks from being in the far left lanes for safety reasons. By puttzin along in the far left lane and playing "traffic cop" you have just pissed someone off and created hazardous conditions not to just the person you feel is "speeding" but to yourself and everyone else on the road. You have backed up traffic and in many cases have made it almost impossible for people to safely change lanes in preparation for making their exit because of the backup.

Maybe you need to get out the Texas Drivers Handbook and get updated on the rules of the road. Below is the link and the page in particular is page 54.
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/DLhandbook.pdf (broken link)

It says specifically that one should "use the right-hand lane if you wish to drive at the minimuim speed or below the normal flow of traffic".

To use the middle of left-hand lane if:
"if you are traveling faster than the other traffic"

Those driving "FAST" in the far left lane are actually OBEYING the law. Those hanging out are not.

Sorry as this is just one of my sore spots when it comes to drivers as my dad is a truck driver and I personally have a fleet of trucks out on the roadways. It ticks me off to see people totally disregard the laws that are put into place for a legitimate reason for the safety of everyone. These guys have to obey the laws to keep their jobs and livelihoods and do not want to be involved in accidents that could hurt someone or worse. Yes, there are truck drivers that are not so great either and I'll be the first one to call and report them if there is a tractor & cab # along w/ a phone number for the owner of said truck.

Oh, this is a good one. This happened yesterday here in Dallas on 190 (a tollroad none the less ). My dad got caught in it and he said he personally witnessed three very close wrecks. He was in his truck too. Some moron decided to take their UNESCORTED funeral procession ON THE HIGHWAY in the middle lane going 20 MPH!!!! This is not just dangerous, ignorant but flat out STUPID!!!!!! The line of cars was going 20, bumper to bumper so no one could "cut in" w/ their flashers on. He said most of them had out of state tags so we know they did not have tolltags and they ran the tolls. When he got up to the front he was hoping the hearse had a name on it but it did not. My dad missed his exit because of it and being in a truck they got him stuck in a lane he is forbidden from being in. He could not get back over to the right after going thru the tollbooth w/ his tolltag. I'm sure many others missed their exits too. In order just to get off close to where he needed to go he said he was going faster than he cared to but he was stuck in the left lane w/ a line of over 30 cars creeping in the middle and a line of others behind him also needing over as bad as him. I think he was much nicer than me as I probably would have FORCED them to get over. Hey, if you want to tangle with something bigger than you........ What is sad is they were in a funeral yet they very easily could have gotten many people killed because of their assinine actions. Even ESCORTED funeral processions don't get on the highways and they go over 20mph.
