This thread was made in September 2006. If I remember correctly, some new gas reserves were found or something like that and gas prices plummeted. They were above $3 / gallon here in the Summer of 2006, and also after Katrina (that was a shock!).
The funny thing is that the OP is right - not long ago $2.41 / gallon, or even $2.00 / gallon would have been unthinkable. Now even $3.00 / gallon sounds attractive (with it at $3.159 / gal here), and $2.00 / gallon downright cheap.
Right now we're averaging $3.35 for regular around the northern end of Vermont. I remember paying $2.83 in New Hampshire three weeks ago. And I guess I'll never forget $0.279 when I began driving in 1969.
Ugh. Just think how depressing it was this time to realize that in 6 months it's gone up nearly a dollar a gallon. I want this thread buried unless prices drop back to a dollar a gallon!
Time to make myself sick I guess. Stumbled upon this thread in my history. Filled this AM on the way to work - $3.89. Nearly a dollar higher in 4 months. Ouch.

The US dollar is worth a whole lot less than it was 2 years ago.
Yeah, it went down 40% in value since March of this year (from what I hear).
