Default The next generation Land Rover Defender?!

Land Rover Defender concept revealed for Frankfurt motor show - Autoweek

Why?! How can car manufacturers be so inept? Anyone who has any long standing love for 4x4s has to be feeling very sick after looking at this.

There is no way I could overland across Africa in that Nissan Cube/Mini abortion. The jungle animals would all laugh at me! The Natives would hand me a baby to nurse and tell me to cook dinner and oh yea, don't forget to pic Deng and Mwani up from soccer practice. What about the Camel trophy? Do they hold it in Nottingham now? Maybe downtown Mumbai? It probably has a sensor that automatically shuts the vehicle down if it detects dirt under those blingin' 24" wheels.

Once we thought the gods must be crazy, now we know it's really the Land Rover designers and executive who have totally lost it. What a brilliant market strategy: Sell 4 different cute-utes in the exact same market niche under different names with slightly different styling. Maybe as an added bonus they could be built as the most unreliable, most overpriced, most uninspiring vehicles possible that are entirely opposite of the vehicles that made the brand great in first place! Why, Land Rover...why?!!!

Or maybe it's just a sign of the times. I suppose it's all paved roads and chic malls in the Kalahari now too. It's sad to see a truly notable piece of machinery turned into yet another car that wants you to remember what it was like to go off-roading without ever actually going off-roading...because your vehicle would never make it if you tried. Rant over....

Is part of it missing? Something seems to have been left off the rear...

As a matchbox car it would be excellent.

I thought it looked like the Kia Soul...

I think you're right, with those huge wheels and low profile tires it's aimed at people driving to the mall, not people willing to take it further off road than the gravel parking lot at the soccer field.

I don't hate it. We'll see how it really performs. I'm sure there will be an option with more sensible tires.

Hideous POS. Looks like LR copied an FJ Cruiser (not a good thing in my book).

Well... It's a concept car, it's obviously not going to look like that come production time. All this is is a style project, to see how the public reacts to it, when time comes it will most certainly be available as a "proper" offroader.
