A slipping transmission feels more like trying to drive with the shifter in neutral than trying to move with the e-brake applied.

If the transmission is slipping, the engine will race when you're on the gas, but without the corresponding acceleration.

Is that what it's doing?

If not, it's probably not the transmission.

And I'm of the opinion that it never hurts to change the transmission fluid. If it goes out after a fluid change, then it was already about to go anyway.

I just drove a subaru baja 14 hours with a trans that wouldn't shift on its own, I had to manually shift it. It's like a semi-automatic lol.

As luck would have it, it barfed out the differential about 5 miles from where I was going. It happens. Take a chance, you might make it ok, or you won't. 50/50 is good odds, right?

I'm guessing no, since he made this thread 2 years ago.

I also would like to know what they mean by "transmission is on its last legs", I been having trouble with my 2003 Honda Civic LX, when the car is first warming up, it slips out 3rd gear the engine races for a minute then it goes back into 3rd. I was told by some people that the transmission was going, but I've had the same problem for the last 60,000 miles, I've had the transmission fluid completely changed twice and it doesn't make the issue any better or worse. What I generally do now is to ease off on the gas when it happens, that seems to make the engine race less. Once the car is warmed up, I notice the issue a lot less.

Ok I'm Having trouble With My 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Automatic Non Turbo... It Reverses Fine... But when I put it in drive and take my foot off the brake it doesn't roll forward... Even on a flat surface. Then when I give it gas it revs hard then jerks forward? Trans Issue?
