While there were a few scenes involving a car in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I don't think of it as being central to the plot of the movie. I never saw Traffic, though, so I didn't have that to compare with the other movies.

The car in Ferris Bueller's Day Off wasn't just eye candy. It was symbolic of Cameron's disaffected relationship with his father, who has forsaken his son in pursuit of material wealth. The major climax of the movie revolves around "the incident" with the car.
