Crotch rocket drivers do in fact have brains. Road crews have to scoop them off the highway all of the time up here after those guys get into a crash. Yes, I live in a no-helmet state.

No he is always very polite. Pillar of the community.

Years ago, I suddenly decided that I wanted to buy a motorcycle. I had never been on one. I went to the motorcycle store and they said they would teach me on weekends if I bought a bike from them. They started showing me Harley's at $20,000 or more. I asked for the cheaper faster bikes that I had seen advertised like the Honda Ninja. The guy said: "Ohh you want an organ donor bike. We keep those in the showroom next door. Go through the door right there that says O.D. and you can find a Donor salesman to help you." The Harley showroom literally had a black sign with red "O.D." hanging over the door the lead to the crotch rocket showroom. They sold both kinds of bikes, but only rode Harleys. After he explained the reasons and said "I will not sell you one of those becuase I know that you have children, but the salesman over there will sell you one if you want", I continued to look at the Harleys, but ended up buying nothing. I still have never ridden on a motorcycle, they look like fun though.

Interesting. Some of the solutions people have posted here would very likely earn them far worse than just being annoyed to death by being tailgated.

Remember, road rage is frowned upon pretty much everywhere, no matter how much of an idiot everyone else is.

Simple, if someone is tailgating, just move over and let them pass. Either move over a lane, or lay off the gas and put on your blinker, we'll get the hint and pass if it is safe.

I probably was going too slow for him, yep, which is why he passed. There was no one on the road besides the two of us, and really it is a scary, long-winding back road. It was around 11:15pm and at first i was nervous because deer are known to jump out all the time. There are dead deer along that road so often. I couldn't pull over because the road is also lined with guardrails. If I am on a multi-lane road, I have pulled to the right for people to pass before. I never see myself as a roadblock (err...I hope I'm not a roadblock!) but if someone wants to tailgate me when i'm already doing over the speed limit, that's okay, they can tail me I don't mind. And man...on highways (like I-95 or I-495 around here, especially the Beltway in DC), I'm terrified of driving anywhere BUT the two rightmost lanes. I avoid highways if at all possible, would rather take back roads that take me just as long if not longer.

Ah, I guess there are a lot of different drivers out there, but for me, I also get nervous driving at night and try to avoid it if I can

Hear you about the deer. I've had to stop in my own driveway to let a family of 4 pass through.

Problem with tailgating in deer country is, it's bad enough if you hit one but you sure as hell don't need rear-end damage too because some bozo was riding your bumper and couldn't stop in time.

I think it's already been mentioned but the windshield washer spray will back a tailgater off pretty fast especially if it's a convertible or a motorcycle. When they do pass you, spray 'em again.

Last night I was tailgated mercilessly by a motorcyclist, who eventually passed me on a rural back road. He was swerving behind me, as if I was going way too slow, and he was actually scaring me half to death for some reason. (I guess I scare easily)

I know there's really nothing I can do, as I am in the heavier vehicle and maybe he was in a rush, but this happens often especially on busy roads.

And I am not against motorcyclists either, not ALL of them do this, just ones that are in a rush I suppose. I would LOVE to be able to learn to ride a motorcycle sometime when the time presents itself.

Just wanted to see how people react to that. Oh, and I am totally used to cars wanting to tail me, I just slow down. But a motorcycle is a lot different.
do the same thing with a motorcycle that you do with a car that is tailgating you, slow down. personally if someone wants to tailgate me, that is their problem, and if they hit me they will be paying big time, and that includes bikers.

That really is enough in most instances.
Slipping a bit to the R side of your lane is helpful too.

Once saw a great bumper sticker:
"The closer you come... the slower I'll go."

That reminds me of another reason I don't tailgate: road debris. Can't see the ladder in the road if you're rubbing bumper.

I guess that we are blessed with lane splitting here in California. I am not one to gun it when I ride or follow so close as to see what I look like in your mirror or chrome bumper. The truth is I haven't ridden for a long time. Going to wait till the kids are grown before I get back on a bike.

lol, that's what i do too. I give those idiot motorists a hard time too, they tailgate me when I'm in the fast lane doing the speed limit which is usually 65mph.

Hey idiots, learn to freaking drive, I own the road and I don't share with anybody else. Driving is a right, it's not a privilege. I don't share the road with you, you share it with me, so learn your place!

These are people who are bent on suicide and don't own a gun or other handy method. Until they accomplish their mission they make life miserable for everyone else.
I TOUCH my brakes a few times and they get nervous and pass as soon as they can.
