100,000 mile Kia warranty is a scam (2012, fuel, best, truck)

My oldest girl bought a Kia right out of college. It was probably the cheapest one they had- 4 banger, manual tranny, radio, and a 4 door. I never asked what she paid for it but they were selling at the time for under 10 grand. Drove the car to just past 120,000 miles. Only had one break down at 98,000 miles and Kia all but rebuilt the engine at no charge. She has since bought a new Saturn and hated it. Drove her grandmothers Camry for a year and hated it. Is now driving a New Altima and hates it. She's going to be buying another Kia just as soon as she's not upside down in the Nissan. The Saturn and Altima both have been in the shop more times than she can count. Said the maintenance on the Camry was way passed ridiculous. As I remember, she decided the muffler needed replacing and made the horrid decision to have Toyota replace it. Seven hundred bucks later she decided she'd never own one. And they were recommending another 3 thousand in maintenance to be done. Yeah, another dealer scamming a single blonde woman. Sorry for your problems Jerseygal but ya gotta know when you buy used that the likelihood of having issues is going to be a problem. Most folks don't get rid of good cars, just the ones they are having or expect to have issues with. I can also understand that maybe it just isn't in the budget these days to buy new but, buying used is the chance you take.

Is warranty it's the biggest deal for you, buy a BMW with extended warranty and maintenance. That DOES transfer to a new owner.

But as someone has already said, this knowledge was available before your purchase, and you should've cleared it up then.

Proud Hyundai owner here! Just recently sold my Infiniti G35 for a 2011 Genesis Coupe and loving every moment of it. Doing a decent 13.8 in the quarter on the stock turbo and looking forward to my larger turbo build sometime soon. My goal isn't too lofty, around 350-375whp but it should do well for daily driving. Anyway, the pure ignorance of some of the people on these forums is astounding. There is nothing wrong with modern KIA/Hyundai vehicles and they've got quite a few solid products. I'm only interested in the Genesis sedan/coupe myself but I can see why so many people are buying the new Sonata. If you fail to read the fairly clearly outlined warranty details (I knew them before I bought the car) then you have no one to blame but yourself.

Sure it does. The Gen coupe is a knock-off Nissan Skyline/G37 coupe as the SOnata is a knock-off Benz CLS.

Let me guess, you don't like Coke but Circle K soda and tell us its just as good.

BTW, I am a fan of the Gen coupe

Lack of due diligence is not the fault of anyone except you. The dealer is not the one to blame here. If you weren't smart enough to ask the question why do you feel it's acceptable to cry foul?

My sister's first new car was a 1999 Hyundai Elantra. It's nothing fancy for sure. But for $8000, she's gotten $170,000 miles out of it. It works perfectly except the passenger side window doesn't open without manual assistance, lol. I don't know why she holds onto it, she has an Audi Q7 now (she had kids).

FYI, my '11 Kia Optima I bought with 5 miles on it 7/2/11 just went over 5,000 miles last week. Not a single issue.

Averaging 32MPG according to Fuelly.com!

My car had 20,000 miles on it when I bought it for 13,000,not cheap at all to me.
So,if I don't want to pay about $5000 in maintenence a year makes me cheap,so be it.

And we all wonder why the middle class is going broke......

That's why they call it a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The cars are actually pretty nice and I wouldn't hesitate buying one but do so knowing that the entire car is only covered for 5 yrs or 60K miles.
