Which is better 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT or a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The GTP is the 40th anniversary edition and has less miles. The Eclipse has more miles, but I have seen Eclipses still running with a lot of miles on them pretty often.

We are all different, but I would go for the 2002 GTP by far. They look better, are faster, and cheaper to maintain. I do like the turbo eclipse (1990-1999), but not the year you quoted as they look funny, especially the headlights.

I always thought that superchargers or turbochargers would require more maintenance. I like the look of the second generation eclipse also.

I have found that parts seem to be pretty cheap for the Eclipse. Mine, a 2003 GTS v6 5 spd does 0-60 in 6 seconds, that is fast enough for me. The whole molded front end is around $200.00 All leather interiors. So what is bad? Prone to window leaks, and dash cracking. They sell a dash that just about snaps in place over the existing one, or glue your cracks and throw dash cover on it. Mine has 138,000, I have replaced all the front end grommets on suspension, otherwise, no problems.

An interesting note. All 3 wiper blades (hatch/front) are different lengths. They sell them as a kit.

I'd probably be partial to the Grand Prix of that era over the Eclipse, more from an esthetic standpoint. I think that era Grand Prix's stiling has held up fairly well, and although not modern by any stretch, GM did a good job at avoiding tacking on too many styling gimmicks to really date it horribly. The Eclipse on the other hand, with the ribbed doors, and blocky-ish styling combined with more geometric circle and half circle shapes IMO is not a style that has held up as well over time.

Beyond any of that, I suspect the GP is most likely more reliable too. The 3800 Supercharged engines are well proven and very well regarded. Having lower mileage over the Eclipse would be a plus too.

Ultimately, however, if you like a particular one a lot better than the other, or a closer inspection of these two particular cars shows one has been maintained far better than the other, then you may have your answer there. By the age of these two, care and use over the cars lifetime is going to have more of an impact on it's general reliability than the brand.
