At least with the Dart they seem to be sticking to what it was meant to be, a simple, economical car with a low price tag.

Before running '67 Chevelles, my car of choice was the Dodge Dart; you could go for the '68 GTS that came with a 440, 383 or 340 (not bad for a small car). Dodge only made 80 of the 426 Hemi models, but they weren't street legal.

The good thing about the older models is that the car is small, but has a huge engine compartment. My favorite was the 'granny cars', later model Darts with 4 doors.... you could make one a total sleeper. (couldn't use the back doors, as for the wheel tubs came too far forward, but you could raise a few eyebrows off the line. Buying a stock slant-6 was cheap, and then a few heavy duty mods would do the trick.

Sure some will argue that the Dart was RWD so this will not be a Dart. But what was the Dart? It was Dodge's compact sedan/coupe that offered good MPG (for it's time and era) and offered a performance version. This upcoming Dart will be their compact sedan offering fuel economy and possibly some performance (acceleration and handling). Plus I think the name "Dart" fits a compact car nicely.

any old Darts you see on the road today look big and ungainly but they were considered pretty light cars back in those days

I loved the Dart Swinger 2 door coupe in white with black vinyl roof 72-74

the Dart always seemed bigger and more solid than the Valiant

I agree with you on the Charger. (Can't stand that car)

But why do you think the current Camaro is a terrible remake? IMO, it's the best it's been since Gen I.

Disappointing to see a sedan with a small trunk rather than a usable hatchback. Hope the Belvidere plant does something about quality control. Looks interesting, but from what little I've seen of it, make mine a 75-76 Special Edition sedan, with velour buckets and either a Slant Six or an economy-tuned 318...something that was built to last a lifetime as long as it didn't rust.

As for the really good fuel economy numbers with the Slant Six, there was a Plymouth Feather Duster for a couple of years (not sure if the Dart Sport had an equivalent) with an overdrive stick shift and a greater use of aluminum parts that was supposedly good for 30 mpg.

That was Plymouth. Wasn't the Challenger the Dodge version of the Cuda anyway?
