That "POS" was the first compact car to achieve 0-60 in less than eight seconds, the first compact car to have standard dual air bags, and the first compact American car to make a profit. It had the most interior room in its class, and handled well enough to develop a reputation as an autocross racer.
What ruined it all was the quality during its first two model years. Robert Eaton and his bean-counters got their way initially, and then when certain problems began to occur repeatedly with the car, the engineers said "I told you so!" and subsequently got the car built with the parts they intended in the first place.
This is why there are still a fair number of Neons around from 1997 and 1998, but relatively few from 1995 or 1996: the quality of the 1997 and 1998 Neons was much better. Had the engineers gotten the car built with the parts they wanted, then who knows? The Neon might have developed some brand equity.
I would love to see the Chevelle come back, but if GM horrifies it like the new camaro, Nevermind. GM should hire Dodge to make a new Chevelle, since they did such a bad ass job with the Challenger. Lol.
Dart ain't bad but, Demon would be better!! The Demon was only made a couple of years...71/72 or 72/73....can't remember but I know they had it in 72.
