I'd rather be a dealer at a casino. Very easy for a poker dealer to make $60-70k a year. At a decent casino, table dealers (Craps, BJ, etc) make around $25-$30/hour with tips. Base pay is always around $7/hr.
My main source of income is playing on line and live holdem tournaments. Working at the dealer gives me benefits like stock options, 401k, insurance and stability. i do tip my dealer when i'm playing live cash game.
They are usually pissed off when I walk out with the keys to the new car.
I love it when people say stuff like this. They don't HAVE to sell you anything. If you walked out with the keys to the car they made money. Sure they'd like to tack on the high-margin extras, but if you truly "pissed them off" they wouldn't have closed the deal.
Anything under 1,600 profit off the front end is only a mini of 100.00 for used vehicles and 150.00 for new.
This sucks, depending on whether they base profit on invoice or net cost. If they go by invoice you'll be getting a lot of minis on new car because most of them don't have that much margin. If they figure profit on net cost it won't be so bad.
That floor is still kind of high, though. When I sold cars the floor was $500 and a mini was $100 new or used.

back in early 90's i was at one of 2 highly competitive dealers with same marque in one city in WI. Very cutthroat, as if one dealer got the deal over the other it was really a 2 car swing in the "dealer of the month" garbage. Which means our management would take deals selling $22k cars at cost, even tossing away holdback to make sure customer didn't go across town. Which means i'd make a flat $25 mini on those deals. Figure several hours spent with the customers, handling delivery, etc and it was not much better then minimum wage. It took a LOT of those crap deals to make money some months. But the dealer could brag as he beat the other guy. Oh well, that's where i got smart and got out of the biz.. i valued my family life too much for those headaches.
the dealership that I work for started out with a $400 per week base pay the first two units you soldthat week you would receive $100and 200 dollars for every unit after that. After 90 days we got switched to commission, 30 percentand no longer had any form of base paythere were involved as well, if you were the first to sell a car that day receive $100 cash the highest gross vehicle would be $300 cash and there was also a pyrimid board for the month, whom ever had the highest gross would go at the top of the pyramid that slot bringing in $1000 the two slots under that bringing $500 a piece 3 slices under that $200 a piece 4 slots under that $100 each you obviously tried to fill as many slots as possible. After have selling 10 units that month you receive an additional 5 percent of all sales, and 10 percent of any back end meaning warranty / gap insurance if you sold 14 units you would receive an additional 5 percent on every vehicle before that also.I have currently work at that dealership for 7 months and have grossed $54000 so far.I don't believe I mentioned that I work at they used dealership. But we4c quite a bit of traffic per month however our ads as pertaining to delicate credit so quite often we do a lot of unnecessary paperwork for those whom can not get financed. I hope this helped.

I naively screwed a Lincoln dealer in the next town, trading in a Merkur Scorpio for a Continental back in about '89. Part of the 'trick' was doing business at the end of a Sunday that they were open. My own local salesman at our local dealer was a patient of mine. The Merkur came with a buy back guarantee at 2 years, which I was taking advantage of. But the buy back number was so low that my patient was too embarrassed to tell me outright. Instead he jacked up the buy back number and then of course couldn't come down much on the Lincoln. The dealer in the next town had the exact same car, on the order of $4K less (!) and took all my verbiage as absolute truth! I really knew no different. So I got this odd phone call the next day at my office. 'You really screwed us, didn't you doc?' - My O my!
