I disagree. How bad is the knock, and what is the cause of it.
My friend has a knock on his car and it is still driveable, but he does see a new engine in the near future, but since the knock started hes put several thousand miles on it.
There is nothing you can do really. If you cant afford downtime, take care of it now. If you can afford downtime, push it till it blows up
I have a rod knocking in my 1992 Honda Accord and was wondering the life of my engine if I took short trips and didn't rev the engine too high ?
Sure, go ahead. The engine's as good as dead, so you might as well kill it some more. You'll get a few more miles out of it, like maybe a couple hundred or so.
Depends..... I've seen engines with main bearing noises last quite awhile. Is the knock there at idle or only when blipping the throttle? The only thing you can say with any certainty is that when it lets loose you WILL be stranded.
Most older cars i've had or been in were to the point of once that rod was really knocking even baby-ing it didnt add more then a couple hundred miles.
So if in fact it is the rod and nothing else, guess do what you need to, but i'd make sure your AAA membership is up to date cuz that ride likely aint gonna crap out in your driveway
There are a lot of moving parts that can cause an engine knock. Experienced persons can usually diagnose correctly a worn or broken rod bearing or failed rod connection. I say usually advisably. And, no one can diagnose it correctly over the Internet.
Thank you all for the advice as I found this on YouTube.
