It looks like the northern states will have an especially long cold winter. I'd appreciate any suggestions for a vehicle in cold and snowy weather. Also, we will be moving to a very rural area of Northern Wisconsin, so this vehicle will not be a short trip/city vehicle. No worries about traffic jambs, parking, etc.
Depends if you want a car or SUV really. We have both, but to be honest, the best vehicle I have ever driven in snow (handling wise) is my Audi A4 Quattro, its like a snowmobile on wheels. Ive had Subarus, Jeeps, etc., but the Audi is far superior. What makes an SUV or truck better in the snow, however, is the ground clearance.
Subaru has one of the best all wheel drive systems. VW also has a really good AWD system, but the rest of the car is problematic. Expect to pay a lot more for repairs.

Says the guy from southwest Florida. As an Alaskan with over 50 years of Alaska driving experience, I'll take an AWD car with factory tires over any FWD car with Blizzaks or any other winter tire any day of the year, especially winter days. My wife has a Subaru Outback and she'll be moving long after that FWD with Blizzaks is spinning its front wheel. Same with me and my Chevy Silverado.
Subaru Outback.
Mitsubishi Outlander with Easy4WD system. It's old school mechanical 4x4.
Toyota Sienna AWD
In passenger cars, it's tough to find AWD vehicle. But either way, don't go domestic.
Any EV with both drive axles.
That gives you decent spread of what to look at in various niches.
