BTW I didn't get one with 4 wheel drive. I never owned a car with four wheel drive and I didn't see a need for one yet.
AWD and 4WD with stability control are very useful in the interior of Alaska because of all the ice and snow. But I agree with you that some of these features, except for stability control, aren't needed in most places.
I would think any online site that gives values of used cars would be able to tell you whether you got a good deal or not.
I certainly couldn't tell on the info given. What kind of taxes and fees are in the OTD price? Options on the RAV4? Overall condition? Prices of similar vehicles in your local market?
Hey, if your happy with the vehicle and content with the price, just drive and enjoy!
Any car is only worth what someone will pay for it!
I needed to get a compact SUV fast so I didn't have time to wait for something better or play the whole negotiation game. This one was in good condition and the mileage was low.
These are the specs:
2009 RAV4 Limited V6 Front Wheel Drive
NAV system
26,500 miles
$21,100 OTD
IMO, you did pretty well. The dealer buy price on that in the Boston area, what they would go off of if they traded it in, is around $17,500. The suggested MSRP is $22,500. So, for an OTD price of $21,100 that's a pretty good deal.

How do you not have time to make a well informed decision on a purchase when it is a large dollar item?

Also, for around $12.00 Consumer Reports puts together a complete value package relating to any vehicle. This is done online, and one has to provide the specific features about the vehicle (options and such), year, model, miles, etc. A few hours later the report can be retrieved online, and printed. It stays active for several days. included with the package are details on how to deal, how much the vehicle costs, and so forth.
I don't know what they go for new...I don't like the styling, powertrain or interior. To give you some perspective so you can decide though, I paid about 34k OTD for my '12 Grand Cherokee. V6, off road package w upgraded AWD, towing, security/convenience and moonroof. This is in VA.

I had to come back and make some comments about your post, as follows: interior and exterior looks are a matter of opinion. Every person likes some things and dislikes others. For example, I do like the way the Rav 4 looks inside and out, but don't like yellowish sort of color interiors. For interior I like gray. For the exterior I like black, silver, and the very dark green color of the Rav 4 I posted on the first page.
The power train, at least the one used on the V6 model is outstanding. The 6-cylinder motor produces 269 HP, is quite fast on the road, and still does very well relating to fuel consumption.
Now about interiors: take a look at the interior looks of a Ferrari Testarossa and notice how spartan the whole thing is. Still, who would not like to own such an automobile? To me it looks amazingly beautiful, even with the light tan leather http://photography-on-the.net/forum/....php?t=1014926

My rule of thumb after buying a used car: NEVER keep on researching or going to Autotrader.com or cars.com to see how much (more or less) you could have paid on a similar car. It will drive you crazy if you find you could have paid less!
Walk away and just enjoy your new ride. Only look at pricing years later when ready to sell/trade in.
