My grandfather owned it before me, and before him his brother owned it since new. So luckily there was no surprise bondo or anything like that, but there was some rust. A lot of rust, actually. You can't see it in the picture, but underneath the paint there was rust all around the windshield and doors, and of course the bed was a mess. It was one of those cars that looked good unless you got really close. And it had an endless stream of engine and electrical problems, and I don't think it ever stopped leaking something, no matter what I did to fix it. It was basically a huge pain and money sponge, but still...it was wonderful to take for a drive out in the country listening to music. And it was enjoyable to cruise around town with some friends who also had old cars. I suppose it was worth all the money and trouble for all the good memories I had driving it.
Just wondering if anyone on here has or even likes them.
I have always liked the early mid 60's El Camino and the Ranchero based on the Falcon. I like the smaller base.
My father owned a '65 El Camino for a few years when I was a child. He traded it in on a Dodge van in 72 (mistake).
Ironic that the Chevy Luv dug the grave and kicked in the dirt on the El Camino. The tiny little truck out sold the El Camino at the starting gate.

I have an '81. I bought it from an older guy who had it since it was new. He had a crate 305 and a rebuilt transmission put in, then his health failed and he parked it (but at least he started it about once a month). I had to have a new carb installed and now it runs perfectly. It still needs to be painted and have some other stuff done like A/C hookup and conversion, but it can be driven now as is.
