That code indicates a restricted flow through the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve (EGR).
The EGR most likely just needs to be cleaned.
If you don't know how to do this yourself, a mechanic can do it relatively cheaply and quickly.

Bingo, common problem and one that can be easily fixed. You can either clean the EGR valve, or if it's really bad, just replace it. The cost is pretty minimal in either case and is something most people with basic mechanical ability could easily do at home.

Just google "2000 camry EGR valve", there are everything from written guides on cleaning and replacements, to YouTube videos.

Several possible associated failures/problem areas will set this code:

vacuum hose disconnected to the EGR

VSV (vacuum switching valve) to the EGR defective or has a resistance reading out of spec; ie, should be 33-36 ohms at 68F

VSV stuck and not applying vacuum to the EGR

MAP sensor defective

ECM defective

A "pro" should have access to this diagnostic tree and have checked it out upon verifying that the EGR is "working fine".

This thread....Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums ....appears to have some good info in it. Makes repeated references to a vsv - vacuum switch valve. Looks like it was the culprit for some other guys with the same code.

Yep, had the same problem with a Nissan. Cleaned the egr valve, changed all the vacum hoses, sprayed the vacum switch valve with silicone lubricant, and cleaned the map sensor, cleaned all the electric terminals with electric cleaner. No more code.

ASE Master. Advanced Engine Performance Specialist. These cars are known for this. As is mine. While working at our TOYOTA dealership, we advised people like my wife, not to replace anything! Driving these cars around town clogs up the exhaust tube to the EGR VALVE. Sometimes it clogs up the passages to the cylinder heads. These cars normaly driven on the highway don't have this problem. We recomend Driving it on the highway/Blowing it out around town. This always fixes mine for a couple of weeks. Disassembling/cleaning lasts a lot longer. Most TOYOTA people don't want to tell you that this problem won't go away if you just putt around town. No lasting fix. All car models have certain problems. Thats why it's so easy for a dealership to fix what is wrong with your car. Seen this before. Like all the time.
