I haven't carried a spare in more than 12 years. Haven't had a flat in much longer than that. I carry fix-a-flat and a plug kit I've never needed. Based on the numbers above I've saved a towing charge several times over.
I'd never base a car buying decision on what spare a car may have, or what tires are on it.
I've driven a MINI Cooper S since 2003 that came with run flats and no spare. I even put non-run flats on it after they wore out and just use the pump and green slime kit.
Sorry.
I am completely converted to the run-flat frame of mind.
Freakin' brilliant.
50 miles at 50 mph.
Even living in Texas, that will get you to a tire shop.
The other thing I keep in all my cars is one of those air pumps. The two times I have EVER had a flat in my entire driving life (20+ years), I was able to drive on them after simply inflating them again...long enough to get to a tire shop in one instance...and to get from Waxahachie back to Dallas in the other instance.
Got a nail in my run flat a few months ago. Because it was mid-tread, it was able to be patched...AND the tire was under Chevy's warranty, anyway.
Got more than 20,000 miles out of my last set of run-flats. In fact, the front tires had more life in them than that.
Having a 25+ mile commute at all hours and through icky parts of highway, I feel really good about never having to stop to deal with a tire.
I don't have a spare. Just a can of goop. A full size spare would not fit in the spot you would put one and a smaller spare will not fit over my brakes.
What car? You might be able to get a donuts off another car with same bolt pattern. An example is camaro guys use C4 Corvette donuts when they do C5 brake conversions.
I have a doughnut, but it's probably flat too since its never been used (I really need to check that). I do keep two cans of Slime Spaire in the back for emergencies though, I like it better than Fix-A-Flat.

I've heard Slime is better too, but I don't remember why. My Fix-A-Flat is probably solid by now, considering how long I've had it.
