In a discussion about the new Camaro Z28 having a faster lap time than the Porsche 911 McKinneyOwnr commented that it didn't matter because I couldn't afford either. After being somewhat shocked at such a rude comment I got to thinking about what afford means. I know most studies have shown the most popular car in the most expensive zip codes in America is the Toyota Camry.

Considering your budget today, what is the most expensive car, or payment (lease or new) that you feel you can afford? I know the biggest car loan I've ever had was $22,000 and I thought that was too much. I've known guys with $750 a month truck payments on an F350. What do you consider affordable?

No need to be butthurt about it. I'm sure spending 75k and not getting A/C is just fine for a person like you.

That's actually incorrect. It's a tie between the Tesla Model S and Mercedes E class. Although that list changes frequently. The Toyota Prius has appeared high on that list, perhaps you confused the two since imports probably all look the same to you anyway. I am surprised you weren't aware that a domestic was a top seller, however.

Actually I'm more interested in others opinion on car and affordable really. I don't place a very high value on vehicles as others. You being rude won't change so that doesn't bother me. You are who you are. Let's see how others perceive afford. Honestly, I won't buy the new Z28, but will get a new truck in 2020. My current one doesn't have 100,000 yet.

the ability to afford something and fitting something comfortably and wisely into your budget & lifestyle are two different things.

You can afford a $400k car easily, but you have other goals you are trying to accomplish...

In the end, a car is a material object that gets you from A to B and if you are lucky gives you some pleasure.

So while I adore cars and everything about them, they are now low on my priority list as a large expenditure.

We can afford whatever vehicle we can pay cash for since we do not finance anything.
Our last purchase was a 2004 Chevy Suburban the one before that was a 1994 Chevy Suburban which we still have and it runs great, we also have a 1993 F150 Pickup (my brother is currently using it).

Apparently it does bother you... so much that you had to start yet another pointless thread.

Let us know when Chevy comes up with a car that can beat the Germans without having to cut the interior down to bare metal and run race tires to compete.
