You never do completely get The Dub out of your blood, do you?
No, you don't. Mainly it's because of a soon-to-be 14yo son. But he thinks Bugs are dull. And no matter what I say to the contrary, well...
deaf ears come to mind!
He's actually got a wild hair up his... for a '70 Mustang. Where the Hell did that come from? '68 or '69 I can see, but '70?
Anyway, I digress. I'd really like to do a type 3 fastback project- just something different.
The really funny part about my Vdub history is the first car I actually bought with my own money was a '69 type 1. A year later my father left GM to work for VW at the new Westmoreland facility. He drove my car until the KD's were sold- he bought one.
Years later I inherited it- and it still ran like a top; until some blind-ass old lady pulled in front of me and I t-boned her driver's door. It went to bunny heaven. I really miss that car!

the '70 was identical to the '69, other than headlights and taillights. It was the '71 that grew and became a new car. Not only did I have over 30 custom VWs, I owned 3 '70 Mustang fastbacks...
ahhhh, air cooled bugs. Fond memories of back in the day cruising around in our bud's with a baja kit and his sandrail motor, in the dead of WI winter.... all passengers equipped with ice scrapers (for the inside of course)..... teen boys forced to nearly snuggle to avoid freezing..... but on flip side great traction if we somehow found ourselves off the road in the snow.
Back in the day we had a Bug. Slowest damn car ever. But with good snow tires nearly unstoppable and pretty darn quick on loose or packed snow. I loved driving sideways on snow. Great fun.
Now I do the same but with a Subie wagon.
