I could go on for hours. People need to realize that we live in reality, and we live with other people, and while your advice is noted, I would wager that few people have or will follow it.
Somehwere in California, it is illegal to eat an orange while taking a bath.

Anyway. When I drive on the freeway in Michigan, it is pretty rare to see anyone driving the speed limit, even in the slow lane. In California, people usually just drive the same speed as the car in front of them (about 17 MPH average on freeways someone said in a different post).

Everyone knows that you can drive 4-5 MPH over the speed limit without getting a ticket almost everywhere, and most people take advantage of that. Generally what I see with a 70 MPH limit is slow lane about 72-75, Middle lane 75, fast lane 80 - 85, with a few idiots going 110 or more once in a while. At 80 or 85 you might get a ticket. I want a warning and the V1 is great for that. I cannot even estimate the number of times I pulled into the middle lane and slowed down and the guy behind me got pulled over, but it has happened.

I've heard people say that, but I've also heard cops tell me that it isn't true. The only reason people get away with it is because of the hassle of going to court with some jackass who can afford a lawyer who can argue about calibrations and margin of errors and basically weasel out of it.

1MPH over the instant you cross the plane of the speed limit sign they can pop you.

They could and the courts and the public say it is petty
and a waste of the courts time to see these cases.

In school zones and construction zones they are not very tolerant and you could get a ticket for just 2 or 3mph over the line.

It is the norm out on the highway that they will not ticket you untill you are 5-7mph over the limit.
They taught us in the academy not to ticket until then.

Being a (former) Boston driver, I almost pooped my pants when I saw the way people were driving in Michigan (I wasn't far from Auburn Park). And I thought Bostonians were crazy.

Reason #3124 why to never live in CA.

The V1 rules, compared to others (JMHO). I started with an Escort, back in the 80's, but ultimately it didn't have the new frequencies they started using. Moved to a Passport, but that is now swimming with the fishes, as that is where it belongs.

It is really simple to get out of a ticket. Just have a cop as a good friend. It is so easy. Got out of them for years in MA. For some reason, the tickets get 'lost'. The worst thing that happens is they say "Please slow down" at the courthouse.

In Michigan people drive fast and somewhat aggressively. Tailgating is an art form. However I find that people are in cotrol of their vehicles and usually paying attention more frequently than in many other places. Except for the tailgating thing, I generally find Michigan drivers to be better than in many other places, especially larger cities. In Boston is seems like they simply ignore all the rules. Lane markers, one way markings, stop signs and lights, turn signals, everything is just a suggestion. Stick your middle finger out the window and the other hand on the horn and go go go. I have never driven in a crazier place than Boston, but I have heard that some European countries are even wilder.

IN Southern Califronia in general it seems that no one is paying attention and driving skills learned elsewhere seem to dry up and blow away in a few weeks. When it rains, you woudl think that everyone is still in drivers ed (and not doing very well). The few drivers who are paying any attention at all seem ot be more courteous, but in general that is the place where I find the worst driving skills as far as being in tune with and in control of the car at all times and knowing what to do in an adverse situation (there the answer to anything tends to be jam on the brakes).

Sorry we have drifted a bit from how useful a V1 is, but then people have pretty much said what there is to say about that. They are awesome and well worth the money. Saw one on Amazon for $295 a few days ago by the way (used).

Try India. I gave the driver an extra 50 rupees to drive sanely, and not get us all killed. Only saw one fatality. I now understand why many of the taxi drivers in NYC are from there, as they are accustomed to that type of crazy driving. Constant honking seems to work well there.

Couldn't agree more. One day it was pouring rain in San Bernardino (the water does run off the hills hard), and locals said "I can't go out and drive, it is raining!" Oh geez.
Come on up to AK, and see what it's like in Fairbanks in the middle of winter.

Yes, this thread is about done. Summary: V1's are good. Just go buy one.

A pot hole, mechanical failure, stalled car (or even a slow car), a gust of wind, uneven pavement, a cat or dog or deer (or cow), just about anything other than perfect conditions and you are dead. No possibility of any other result. The sad thing is that you will not only kill yourself, you will probably take somone's daddy or mom or a little kid along with you. I hope you lose your license before that happens.

Now i can never understand why people say our roads aren't suited for it...

It isn't the road ! it's the people NOT driving at speed or the other people not driving!!. . .

There are very very few drivers and TONS of steering wheel operators.

I have driven almost EVERYWHERE over the speed limit and still do, never once had a road jump up and move me to a tree...

When i drive anywhere i pay attention to everything as im coming up behind you i know if you're on the phone, looking in your mirror and have any clue how quickly im coming up on you from the middle lane and your holding up the left lane where you do not belong, not passing, not following the rules of the road ... Im scanning everything, the right lane, middle, left on ramps, everything. I have watched accidents unfold right before me as i called out the mistakes leading to it....

Not everyone who operates a car either at the speed limit or over the speed limit is a DRIVER, most cars on the road are clogged with deadly not paying attention steering wheel operators, that are doing anything but driving.

Now animals. . . . If you see a deer or any animal at those speeds you remain calm (steering wheel operators panic and swerve and die), duck apply the brakes lightly wait for it to exit thru the back window, pop up come to a stop and then realize that animals like suicide by car . . .

Driving, some people do it and most are a danger to ME, themselves. . .and you and SS928

The problem isn't the road or the speed but the lack of real seriousness put on obtaining a license to drive a car.

Ah yes, another one of those unintentionally ironic posts...
