Usually, yes. Drag strips usually have track officials to make sure you follow the rules, and an ambulance at the end in case you flip your car over the wall.

The point being, if you are going to have a fast car and a heavy foot, you had better be good at it and practice before you even think of punching it. That^ Vette mistake was a classic of some Doc or lawyer with more money than brains!

Too many cars on the road to have a good race anymore.

and frankly, imo, years ago we ran for fun, then parked the cars to hang out afterwards. None of this "pinks" crap, with lying, negotiating, and bickering just to run a race.
I remember lining up at street lights, go on green. nuff said.

Not anymore, when I first started driving I thought I was invinceable, and invisible apparently. A couple of close calls and some trouble with the law man put an abrupt end to that kind of behavior, I rarely ever get hard on the throttle anymore, much less race someone.

No, I don't see the point of racing with another person. You have to ask yourself? What are you trying to accomplish and why should I care whether someone has a faster car than me? It's not like I'm going to buy a new car or upgrade the engine the next day. Who cares? People don't impress me with their vehicle.

I'm not going to put my life or someone else at risk over some shallow pointless race.

My first car in 1986 was a 1978 Camaro with a 250 CID inline 6 cylinder and 3 speed auto transmission. Closest I came to racing was to check my Camaro's 0-60 time on a straight country road that had no homes along almost a mile stretch. Speed limit was about 50 mph. My time was very slow. I later discovered I had only 5 working cylinders on an engine that had 120 HP when mint. My next car was about the same speed or a little faster, a 1984 Buick Skyhawk coupe with 2.0L 90 something HP and 4 speed manual transmission. Though less HP, the body was lighter and it had an extra gear. The next car was 1994 Chevy Cavalier RS sedan with 2.2L 120 HP and 3 speed auto transmission. It was much faster than the Camaro. I now drive a 2003 Chevy Malibu with 3.1L V6 170 HP and 4 speed auto transmission. This is now the fastest car I've ever owned.

Never dragged raced on public streets. Probably because I didn't owned a car fast enough to even try. Now I'm just too mellow to care.

I'll do the occasional hard roll from a light against a real challenger, a quick romp, or push it hard on a on/off ramp or twisty road. Never in traffic, never past the speed limit (OK, seldom), and usually not with anyone else in the car. Not even close to the limit. No one else is at risk when I play on the street.

I don't think that's out of line for a responsible adult.
