My dad bought a new 1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer, which was, actually, a pretty decent car for the mid-50s, probably the worst period in US automotive history.
Mid 50s was probably the worst period in US automotive history?
Wow, you weren't paying much or you liked the wrong cars. T-bird and Crown Victoria. Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Olds and Caddy big box cars and assorted models from Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth. My dad had a 57 Crown Vic and my grandmother a 56 Chevy - both 2 door coupes. Both would be classics today. Great cars from that time period. Corvette came out in 53 and got better. My buddy still has a 58.
I was 18 during 75-76 and not much was happening in the USA car market. A GM product would be my domestic choice but Datson was building cool Zs back then. I haven't been into European cars most of my life but a Porsche 911 is the ultimate boy racer so I would go there.

Yes, I agree. For one thing, the horsepower race started in the mid-'50s.
Some of the Mopars (Chrysler 300, DeSoto Adventurer, Plymouth Fury, etc) were starting to get some serious horsepower and 130+ mph top speeds. Same thing with GM and Ford... horsepower was going up practically each year.
And the styling go the long and low look, and with fins.
Also available and/or becoming more common were V-8 engines, air conditioning, power steering/brakes/seats/windows.
being a Mopar fan i can't think of any Mopars in 1980 that grabbed my attention since many became so faceless a few years prior. and the biggies and middies were gone by 78. I might take a Dodge St Regis or Chrysler New Yorker from '80 if it were in mint condition tho.
as for GM, maybe a Caprice Classic in mint condition from '80
as for Ford, seeing cars produced like the Fairmont and Zephyr just killed my memory of any Fords from '80
with the Ambassador and Matador gone for '80, sorry, the Concord just won't make do!!
1994...Man, there's not a whole lot I can think of from '94. If it were '92, I'd pick a Vector W8 or a Ferrari F40.
For 1994, I guess a Ferrari 512T or Lamborghini Diablo.
When it comes to vehicles that would actually be attainable, maybe a Corvette ZR1. One year earlier and I'd pick a GMC Typhoon. Of course, for '94 there's the Impala SS. I could live with one of those.
