Hi. I'm in the market for a new car and as much as I wanted an electric one it seems impossible to me to find one in Pittsburgh area.
Basically it has to be american or mostly american so i can benefit from discount from work. This limits my options.
Now if electric is out of question, cuz the dealer says the closest one he located (a ford fusion) is in Boston, what else can I get?
Before this I had a chevy prizm and pontiac vibe, you know american cars that sort of mirrored japanese. My vibe has a japanese engine.
Is gm doing something else - like a twin of a japanese car?
I am very happy with my vibe and I'd buy a new one but they don;t make it anymore, beats me why.
the dealer recommended me an electrick Buick. isn;t Buick for old people or something? I've never seen anyone less than 70 driving a buick.
Would you please give me you advice? My budget is 30ishk - so Tuareg is out of question- not that the dealer was able to locate one
I can't stop to wonder: why don;t Pittsburgh people drive more hybrids? It seems california is full of them.

Because they cost so much more then their petrol equivalent. I "think" people in CA use them mainly as a status symbol ("look at me - I'm green"). The rest of us have to look at price and return. For electric vehicles, there is no return. I saw an article the other day that in the past 2 months ZERO of the Ford electric cars have been sold.
The newer Ford Focus is pretty awesome, and well within the 30k range. If I hadnt totaled my car in Summer 2010 I would have waited for the new model to come out.
By American do you mean built here in America, or by an American company...two very different things...
A big problem with electric cars is that the battery will need replaced at some point - they can account for half the cost of the car - this really kills any resale value.
What exactly is the discount from work? I doubt it really makes it worth buying a new car, especially in the 30K range.
It sounds like you're just looking for a sedan or coupe, why not buy used, or at least look in the lower end of the new market segment. Paying 30K for a car pretty much means that at least half of the cost is just for status and style. Seems like a waste to me, but then again I don't enjoy driving in Pittsburgh anyway.
I might as well wait for the 2013. I have to still check the Volt. But RyanR the ford Fusion is well priced in 30ks sort of. the tourag at 50k and 60k that is crazy. but still... why won;t people buy an electric car that is like 30kish??
One ford dealer told me it is going to be discontinued next year and that ford is going to concentrate on the milage.
see, i want to do the right thing for the earth and ford won;t let me.
I also wanted it to be awd with sunroof and power outlet inside. I might as well ask for the moon.
By american I mean to be made by one of the three ford GM or chrysler.
I think I'm going to give up unless anybody has other advice i could use. Thanks.
