Not trying to troll but I'm just curious what everyone's experiences are with autos. My current car is a 97 Taurus and I can see why most people who bought one didn't buy another!
I've been lucky I guess I never had any real crap cars. I do remember my dad buying a 88/89 Dodge Diplomat with a 318 in it, he drove it less the 50 miles before then engine fell out of it. The dealer blamed him of course.
2000 Ranger Edge. Owned for 18 months. Driven a total of 8,000 miles. Dealer had it for over 12 months due to various major problem. Ford bought it back with no argument.
I had an 89 Taurus and put 172k miles on it with just one trans rebuild. The ac still worked after all those miles. I really never owned a really bad car. Had an 81 Escort too and it was reliable as a rock.. Even had an 80 Citation and I liked it too. never let me down. I guess it depends onhow you maintain em.
Worst: Renault Caravelle. Didn't matter how you maintained it, it was guaranteed to be broken. The price was misleading when I acquired it with 5,000 miles on the odometer from a professor at UCSD. He had it towed to my shop and abandoned with the title in the glovebox after never having the car run properly from his friendly neighborhood Renault dealer where it had been waiting for parts for most of the time he owned it.
At that, I can think back with less than fond memories upon a few Jaguar sedans of 1960's vintage that all got nicknamed "Jezebel" for their consistent ability to break while sitting in the garage.
the worst car i ever owned was a rolling junk yard known as a 1964 malibu ss. the frame was broken in two places, the rear floor pans were completely rusted out(how the carpet stayed in place i have no idea), the engine was running on 5 1/2 cylinders, etc.
1996 Toyota Trecel. What a huge POS that thing was. Rode horrible, unreliable, not even good MPG for it's size. Underpowered, slow as death, shifted like a stick stuck in a box of marbles, uncomfortable on anything more than trips into town.
Worst part was that it was bought brand new (by my then girlfriend, wife now) and showed problems from the first week. I was SO happy to ship that pile of crap down the road... my 1974 Jeep J-4000 junker pick-up was a better vehicle in all aspects except gas mileage.
