I could have put this in the racing forum, but it moves pretty slowly and is dominated by just a few posters.
IS the level of competition between the top tier Sprint Cup teams and the entry level (full time) SC teams larger or smaller than it was 10, 20, 30+ years ago?

IMO it's about the same difference. The entry level teams are funded and quality wise are about the same as the high dollar teams were 30 years ago.
The top level teams are so highly funded today that it is nearly impossible to steal a win away from them.
Win one race today and you make as much money as the series champ did 30 years ago.
