I am purchasing a new 2012 mazda3 - i am financing 60 months to purchase.
My friend works there and is able to get me discount on warranty 'at cost' price for dealer.
I can get a 6 year, 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty for $1500, normal price is $2300.
Is this a good deal, do new car buyers often get this?
How many miles do you normally drive in a year? If you are a low mileage driver then you will likely reach the end of the factory warranty by time rather than mileage. You have a full basic warranty of 3yr or 36k miles and a powertrain warranty of 5yr/60K miles.
If you get the 6yr extended coverage then you are buying 2yrs of coverage for non-drivetrain components and only 1 year of full coverage.
I would asked for a longer term.
If you are a high mileage driver then you will get a bit more coverage.
I would suggest contacting Damien at Allied Solutions - 800-826-9384 ext 23319. He has set me up with a couple of Service Contracts for a decent price.
Wait until just before your manufacturers warranty is about to expire. You'll be inundated with companies wanting to sell you bumper to bumper warranties at a much cheaper price. Why buy something that is already covered by the auto mfg.

My warranty expired 4 years ago and I still get a couple offers a month.
A warranty you purchase is just insurance. If you can afford to make repairs, then gamble that you won't have to. If you can't but can afford the extended warranty, then buy it. It would only take one major repair expense to have the warranty pay for itself, but how often does that happen on a car like a new Mazda?

Yeah, those are likely mass mailers that go over car registration records and then bombard people with warranty offers. (See link below)
Most reputable companies will not even sell this way because you tend to just get people with problem autos to buy them.
So, I will echo the advise from some others here about buying these at the dealership from a reputable source.
