Hey guys lets not start turning this thread into another argument.
Good read though, glad it wasn't any more tragic.

Wow... Coming from someone with "drunk" in their screenname. I'll send your "Whatever..." right back at you.

Agreed.

The other driver should have been in prison. You will find in the Midwest that DWI drivers get a few dozen slaps on the wrist ... until they kill someone.

The driver in the Nissan deserved to die. That's right, I said it! It's not just that he was driving drunk (which is bad enough-- although we're not just talking about someone who had one drink too much over the limit... he must have been so wasted it was unreal)... he was driving recklessly. Reckless driving is evil. Reckless drivers don't care about the value of their own lives or other people's lives. And probably a very good chance that if that human piece of scum was wearing his lap seat belt he may have survived. Fortunately justice was served.

I'm so glad you and your family are okay, but sorry to hear your vacation was ruined... all the time, money, effort and excitement leading up to a grand adventure, all to be destroyed because someone was so selfish and self-destructive... I get it, and I hope you can afford the time and money to take another trip soon with your family.

What a saga! I'm thankful you and your family are all right, and even more thankful that there were no other passengers in the Nissan.
The driver obviously had quite a reputation in the area!

I’m not a lawyer, but I highly recommend pulling your pictures and story. In the end it won’t matter that he was drunk, had no license and lived at home. What will matter is that you violated his right of way and now he’s dead.

Considering the road was perfectly clear when I pulled out, I did not violate his right-of-way. Had he been doing the speed limit, I could have cleared the intersection before he got there. He was un-licensed, drunk and speeding and it was determined by the investigating officers that I was not at fault. The only thing I did wrong was to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
