I have a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe (Limited, V6, AWD, etc.) It can hold its own amongst BMW, Mercedes, Acura, Lexus. I'm not saying that because I have one...

Im considering a Scion TC, Toyota Yaris, or maybe a Hyundai or Kia.

My intent would be to drive said vehicle until it ceases to function, meaning even if its rusted and ugly and still running...I will be using it. Aesthetics aren't important either. I would drive the ugliest car imaginable if it got decent mileage and was a reliable source of transportation.

Anyone have any experience with Hyundais or Kias and would recommend them? I may just go the Toyota route, but I'd like to hear some positive feedback if you've got it.
We have a 2006 Kia Sedona mini van which we use when the whole family needs to go someplace and friends are around.

It's as good or better than any Japanese or American car we have ever had. Never a problem. We love it! It's also attractive and comfortable.

Never thought of it that way but I agree!

I always liked Datsun/Nissan better than Toyota and Honda - meh!

We have two Nissans and a Kia. They are all great vehicles.

Any current model Hyundai or Kia is better than that.

Driving the Yaris is an absolute dream compared to the week that I spent driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent around Dallas and Fort Worth. The Accent sounded like a tin can AND the mileage wasn't only about 30 mpg. It was a real disappointment.

I had a 2009 Toyota Camry and I wanted something smaller, so when that lease was up. I decided to Finance a 2011 Kia Soul.

I love my car. It looks small on the outside but it is extremely roomly on the inside. I'm 5'10" so it looks funny when I get out of it!

But that is beside the point. It's a great car. It is great on gas/mileage and it only takes $35 dollars to fill up my tank.

I drive a 2000 Hyundai Accent that I bought new in 2000. It is still running strong. One thing I will say about Hyundai is that you may be limited to buying dealer parts. Everything on my car is a dealer item accept for the Catalytic Converter that I replaced earlier this year for an aftermarket unit. All the sensors were also replaced and are all Hyundai units. From my experience I have learned that aftermarket does not always work for Hyundai. I have never had a dealer part fail me on this car.

We swear by Hyundai. Hubby bought the first-year '97 Tiburon and when we gave it away in '04, it still had the original clutch, as well as 268,000 miles. We bought a Santa Fe 2.7L that year, and sold that in '10, and it had 275K. Neither car gave us a second's worry. In fact, I was rear-ended in the Santa Fe on the highway by a drunk driver who was going 100 mph -- it did not roll, it was repaired (though it should've been totaled; adjuster missed the bent frame), and it gave us another 150,000 miles after that accident. I was *very* glad to be in a big SUV that night, FWIW.

I'm sitting on the sidelines, watching how these newer ones go for the next 4 or 5 years. Right now I'm hearing a disproportionate number of 2-3 year old Hyundais on the city streets/parking garages around here exhibit rod bearing or valvetrain "death" noises. My guess is the average Hyundai owner doesn't know what they're hearing.

I have a Kia and I love it. My fiance also recently bought one used, and it had been badly abused, but it is great now. I think they are great cars for someone looking for something reliable with good gas mileage. And, while they are not the showiest of cars, I like being able to from LA to Vegas and back on 1.5 tanks of gas...about $50. That is why I drive a Kia
