Also, I had to replace the alternator once. I ran it up over 300,000 miles before the Minnesota rust got the best of it.

It was big, comfortable, had good power, and consistently got over 30 mpg on the highway.
Those are good cars! I think people fail to realize America has produced some simple but reliable cars. There are several others than have been great too.

Well, I had a Geo Metro 2-seater convertible which lasted 17-yrs total. Bare bones... no power steering/brakes, no working radio, no a/c, heat was wonky the last 1-2 years, plastic back window. Options? Um... purchased with 4 good tires & it had 2 slightly broken cup holders... woo hoo. I bought it for $2K, 4-yrs old, 89.5K miles... perhaps not a splendid deal, but it was what I could afford at the time. Lasted me 13-yrs with very few repairs in cold, icy climates with lots of rain, feet of yearly show & salted roads. I drove it into my mechanic one day because I felt crooked whilst driving... had been for a few months but I thought it was my imagination. He put it up on the lift & refused to let me drive home... floor had rusted out beyond repair. Body was falling apart, engine was still great. (The car, not me!) They took it to Geo heaven & gave me $100 to buy candy & ice cream.

Now I have a 2011 Honda CRV & love it. Comfy, safer, quieter & smoother drive than my bumpy ride in a tiny Geo so low to the road most pedestrians couldn't see me. I was only afraid of hitting them as my Geo would fall apart & they'd be left with a nasty knee bruise perhaps needing a BandAid. Now having a Honda with a CD player, a/c & fancy schmancy remote door opener key fob thingster, well, it feels quite like a Bentley.

40 years of cars, but our current '02 VetteVert is the best car I have ever owned: nearly glitch-free and bulletproof in 10+ years and 50k miles, gets 28-30 mpg on trips, huge trunk holds two sets of clubs and soft luggage for weeks worth of trips, fun to drive, handles great, nearly m'cycle fast, & very fun to drive...

I've owned over 25 cars in my lifetime and I would have to say that the best/most reliable car I've ever owned was a 1992 Honda Prelude. Too bad I crashed it. Second favorite was a 1991 Ford Taurus SHO. I loved that car! It was the ultimate sleeper. The reason I dont have it at #1 is because of a faulty AC line that was discontinued and therefore I was never able to get the AC to work.

My dad's 1998 Ford Falcon wagon has 500,000km on the clock and the engine runs like it's new.

My own Ford Falcon is a 1999 model, it's a station wagon aswell, with 248,000km on it and the engine and transmission are flawless. Barely feel it when it shifts. Had it converted to LPG and it runs very well on both LPG and Petrol (gasoline). Of course, you get the odd nuisance with an older car like this, like a headlight bulb burning out or the trip meter backlight dying, but mechanically it is faultless. Never had coolant or oil leaks, never even wanted to break down while in my possession.

LOL same here. I loved both of mine. One got stolen, the other one I bought stripped (stolen from a friend), rebuilt it, sold it, and got stolen again =l
