How would you compare perceived level of prestige, quality, and reliability in the new 2013 KIA Optima EX and 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited in relation to that of cars such as the 2013 Nissan Altima SL, Honda Accord EX-L, or Toyota Camry XLE? Interested in all replies from anybody who either owns, leased or maybe even test drove one.
The only prestige of driving/ owning any car is perceived in your own head.
The price of your car means nothing to social status.
You could have taken a 2nd mortgage and are spending every penney on it for the next 10-15 years.
Now if your question is which one is the best deal for the $$ then prestige just flew out the window.

I'm not sure you're using the right word. None of the vehicles you listed have prestige. Accord and Camry have a history of reliability and of holding their value. The Optima and Sonata have made great leaps in quality. Only time will tell of their reliability and value. Don't worry about prestige, buy the vehicle you like that suits your needs.
I certainly do not worry and prestige or image and cross shopped full segments before purchasing a 2011 Sonata 2.0T limited. It has been the most trouble free new car I have ever purchased (which includes BMW, Infinity, Honda, Nissan, and others) and I fully expect it to be reliable. It has a good warranty and my limited experience with Hyundai and the dealers have been good enough for me to feel confident that this was a very good purchase.
Although I am a fan of the Optima and Sonata, none of the vehicles mentioned have any kind of prestige. There is nothing particularly special about them. They are appliances at their core but at least Hyundai/Kia actually work to make them look exciting while the rest languish. I would pick the Optima first and the Sonata second.

As a counterpoint, since we agree that they are appliances, I would pick Honda/Toyota for reliability and resale.
I'd read a bunch of reports from automotive journalists, go down to the dealer and sit in potential models, research prices and after a few months the car that right for you will make itself obvious..
Kia Optima would be on my short list along with the Hyundai genesis..

I'd say the Genesis sedan is a good distance better than all of the mid-size cars mentioned here. The only thing that would be stop me from getting one (aside from the fact that I already have a Genesis Coupe) is that the current model has been around since 2009 and a new one is due sometime soon.
