Explains the number of accidents

Kidding aside, the article actually states that "women are more likely than men to purchase smaller, safer and more fuel-efficient cars; to drive less, and to have a lower fatality rate per distance driven."

Interesting, but my theory is that men get into more deadly high-speed accidents while women are in fender benders more often.

Must be a slow news day or some starving journo is trying to make his or her studemt loan payment. The basic demographics put the female population 5 million more over males.

Bingo. There are more women then men in the country. Kind of makes sense that more women would have licenses.

My experience is that most journalists are completely and utterly incapable of understanding statistics. To you or I, that may be obvious. To a journalist, the relationship between number of women vs men and number of female drivers vs male drivers might very well be nebulous at best. Then again, I'm a person who took statistics and probability classes for fun during college, so I'm pretty weird.

True that and it's been like that for years, just curious as to why it took so long for the gals to surpass the guys.

Hi motormaker--

I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Just for kicks, try shopping around for car insurance and tell them you're a newly-licensed 16 year old male.

Then slice your penis off, and ask what the quote rate is for a female. And all will become clear.
