VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes Several years ago DuPont's patent in Freon expired, and thru legislative lobbying/$$ contributions we got R134a. Now the patent on that stuff will expire soon and they are attempting to manipulate the system to give us R1234yf. Unfortunately the latter will be detrimental to human health during an auto crash or leak in the system. "Kinder to the environment" bravo sierra...it will be kinder to DuPont's bottom line profits.

Wow, some folks are very defensive about R1234yf's flammability, yet wont give propane or ammonia refrigerants the time of day for mobile applications.

What you don't know CAN hurt you, huh?

Anyway, I'm no organic chem major (did well in it, though), but don't set your car on fire and you won't have to deal with a fluorine exposure. That would suck.
