I have not gotten 41 plus mpg since 1984. They are finally catching up with the older cars, but at a huge cost. Funny, they have made huge improvements in luxury, features, performance and safety, but they are struggling to catch up with the MPG of economy cars from the 1970s and 1980s. Probably because of emissions and partly because of added weight from safety features. Still it surprises me they are struggling so hard to get back to where they were 30 years ago.
It would not surprise me. I can get 26-28 freeway in my 1995 Z28. The 6th gear overdrive has a very high ratio. If I stay in 6th gear for most of the trip I get very good mileage. That mustang is probably much newer so technology can easily provide an answer for another 2-4 MPG. Do mustangs have 6 gears with a high ratio overdrive? (and yes, for the gear heads out there I know "high ratio" is probaby the worng terminology, but you know what I mean)
Funny thing is it makes very little difference whether I drive 70 or 90. There is some difference, but not much. At 90 it is still under 2500 RPM (I think under 2200, but I do not remember for sure).
I'll one up you. Motorcycle (110hp at 400lbs).. 50mpg
