I was checking out the KBB value of one of my spare cars that I drive on the weekend. I just spent $550 on 4 news tires and was thinking about selling it.
Here's the deal it's a 99 Nissan Maxima, it has 132k miles it's a rare 5 spd. it has leather seats, heated seats / dual power seats, side air bags, bose audio, allow wheels, spoiler, moon roof, etc it's in great mechanical cond, all maintence done on it CA car no rust.
It's total private party value is a whooping $2800... These cars are known for running 200k no problem, I just saw one listed today that had 300k original miles. It's a poor mans BMW, not a Ford Taurus, doesn't this seem low?

I don't want to be disrespectful, but I have NEVER heard Nissan called "a poor man's BMW." In fact, Nissan's don't exactly have a stellar reputation.
Basically, you have a 14-year old car with 132k for miles. It's a $2,500 car - if you're lucky.

Okay, maybe not so much Nissan, they actually used to make some decent cars but they've fallen along the wayside latley wit some cars made in Mexico. But these maxima's were actually made in Japan (unlike most Honda's and Toyota's of today). Late 90's Maxima is well known for durable engines, ask any mechanic. And as far as the BMW comment, I would take a 14 year old Maxima over a 14 year old BMW anyday.
It is a 14 year old car that isn't rare. You should be happy that it is still worth almost 3k. You should just drive it till the wheels fall off.
It's rare becase it's the 5 spd, 95% out there are auto's. The late 90 's 5spd's are a cult class in the year 00 they changed the body style and it was much less popular.
I don't think you can expect more. I mean, if everything works, you still like the way it looks, and it's paid off with no car note, like said above, just keep the thing. Sounds like it's still got everything you need.
And hondas are known to have high resale value. Almost to the point that it doesn't make sense to buy a year old used honda, as it'll be the same price practically as a brand new one.
I can't say I've ever heard of Nissans having comparable resale value.

I wouldn't want a 14-year old BMW either.
I guess I'd suggest that you ask whatever price you want. If it's fair & reasonable, it will get sold. If not, the market will tell you want your car is really worth.
