I have never driven a Forester but have driven a 13 CRV Ex . It's quite a value in terms of ride, mileage, technology, space . I like the car and feel at the price point it's a great choice .
Subaru Forester is a great vehicle, all Subarus are very popular in the northern tier and mountains, probably not so much in DFW. The big complaint about the CRV is the limited visibility due to the rear window design. Both the CRV and Forester have great reliability and resale value. Finding a used one with one owner in great condition is not easy as they are usually in demand.
Honda is not known for a soft quiet/ride. I had a 2011 CRV and it was quite noisy. Don't know about the Subaru. You have to test drive both, ideally on the same route.
I don't know about the CRV, but the 2009 Forester was quite noisy. Maybe newer ones are quieter? There is something that often causes road noise, and that's the tires. All depends on the type of treads; the more aggressive, the noisier they are.
Anyway, road and wind noise has never been a problem with me. If it ever bother me, I just crank the receiver's volume
This is going to be very subjective from one driver to the next. You may be able to find reviews and test results for sound and ride, but until you drive both back to back you will only be guessing on which one you like more in these regards.

Honda for some time has been known for road noise. Consumer Reports complains about it all the time. Honda's ride is generally considered a bit firmer than Toyota (for instance). Honda's engines though are usually smooth and relatively quiet.
I like Subarus but haven't driven one in a while. The last one I drove was a Forester - and I though the engine sounded "busy."
CR said the new Accord had less road noise than previous models. Perhaps the new CR-V is better too.
Try a 2014 Mazda CX-5. Smooth ride. Better MPG than CRV and Forester and more torque and similar HP and priced similar to them if you get the mid or upper trim (low trim has smaller motor). Smooth shifting 6 speed transmission. Quiet peppy motor. Mazda is tied with Subaru in reliability in consumer reports and ahead of Honda. Push button start is standard and better visibility than CRV.

Yes, the older Foresters do have a bit more road noise because of the frameless windows, a feature discontinued after the more recent renditions. I haven't been in a newer model to compare, though.
