I had this clunking going on mostly when doing tight manuavering through parking lots etc... I was thinking it was the bearing on top of strut, or sway bar, but recently I noticed that one of my tires was worn down to the steel on the outside edge and got it replaced. Well now after I got my tire replaced the clunking has disappeared. Has anyone had something like this before, could the new tire just be smoothing the ride out and making it less worse????

Could be a worn steering or suspension part. When you turn, and having a badly worn tire on one edge can further enhance the angle of the part making the noise. The new tire closes that gap. Find the part thats bad, it may have been what caused the tire to wear so unevenly to begin with.

Also, check your cv joints if its front wheel drive, could be bad joint which often click on sharp turns.

Tie rod end is another possibility here. Also, maybe the wheel was loose :P
