I hate the speedometer being in the middle of the dash.

I want to check out the Hyundai Accent, personally.

Junk, junk, junk. Plus, the Accent has horrible gas mileage for a subcompact. It only gets 32 mpg highway! I get that much out of my mid-size Accord.

Personally, I think subcompacts are death traps and the gas mileage is no better or only slightly better than most regular compact models. And usually there is not much price difference. The Corolla is a better option over the Yaris....and I would take a Civic over a Fit. And I'll never ever even consider a Hyundai again, even if it was free. I would rather drive an 86 K-Car than one of those Korean junkmobiles.

My girlfriend has a 2007 Yaris sedan (13K) with a manual transmission. I'd rather have a Honda Civic (15K), Mazda 3 (14K) or a VW Rabbit (16K), but if all you want is reliable, basic transportation that's cheap-to-keep, the Yaris is fine until you can afford something more interesting.

I will agree though that American companies are improving...but after the 80's and 90's, there was really nowhere to go but up.
well, the build quality of the echo and yaris is terrible. tercels and tacomas used to be some of the bottom line vehicles and they were/are built better.

LOL. I was driving behind a little green Accent yesterday in traffic that was burning oil. Every time that girl stepped on the gas I nearly gagged from the smoke. The right front wheel was also tilted in like it was going to fall off at any moment. It made me anxious being behind it, I couldn't imagine being in it.

The most common problem on Hyundais seems to be the transmission. I've heard a lot of people complaining about Hyundai/Kia transmissions.

You're right. If a Neon or Stratus doesn't burn oil, it will leak it. Either way, ya better have an extra quart or two in the trunk.
