So your point, based on figure one is the consumption has outpaced production and as a result prices should increase?

Ok, well thanks for coming around on this topic....glad I could help.

By the way, the price of a gallon of gas was about $1.65 when Clinton left office, not $1.10. Oh, and it had been just $0.85/gal just two years prior -- it must have been Clinton and his cronies biddng up the price of oil for profit!

there is no way in hell it was $1.65 no way in hell, maybe around $1.20-$1.25, but no way in hell except maybe in California and Hawai were gas prices $1.65 when Clinton was in office

what is the source of these charts, where I am from I dont recall prices getting past the $1.40 range until around 2004, I remember in the spring of 04 gas prices started to jump for no reason, it seemed they were going up 5 cents every day and when it was around $1.75 a gallon it seemed unheard of to me at the time

Average gas prices got higher than that near the end of Clinton's term.
If you look at this graph....gas was about the same during Bush I and Clinton's terms.....something to think about eh?

I know, I know, facts are very inconvenient things when they get in the way of a hyperbolic partisan rant, but yes, gasoline did get to $1.65 during the Clinton administration. I'll ignore the fact that what the price of gasoline was at X point in time has approximately ZERO to do with what determines today's price or what will determine tomorrow's price just long enough to refer you to the Energy Information Agency webpage. Click where it says "Regular" in the upper left-hand corner, then when the spreadsheet opens, click the "Regular All Areas All Formulations" tab. It will give you a weekly breakdown of the price of regular-grade gasoline since 1990. I did err in stating that gasoline was $1.65 when Clinton left office (I happen to live in one of the most expensive gasoline markets and my recollection was thus skewed); rather it was $1.47. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $1.73/gal in today's dollars. During the Clinton administration, the price of regular-grade gasoline peaked at $1.68/gal in June 2000 (that's $1.98/gal in today's dollars) after a low of 90 cents a gallon in February 1999 ($1.07 in today's dollars). Musta been Clinton lettting his cronies bid up the price almost double in under two years.
